Just to remind all of you out there, tomorrow April 15th, 2008 there will be a memorial ceremony to remember those who died at Hillsborough, Sheffield. A nineteen anniversary of one of the most terrible tragedy in history of an English successful football club, Liverpool FC. At Hillsborough stadium 19 years ago there was a tragedy which cost 96 people died on semi final FA Cup match between Liverpool FC vs Nottingham Forest.
Right after kick-off 96 Liverpool FC supporters died crushed to the stadium fences. Rest of all could survive after climb up the fences and goes to the pitch then tried to help anybody that trapped in the crushed. The supporters in the stadium were crushed after about 5000 supporters outside stadium trying to get in the stadium. A small capacity in Lepping Lane End (where Liverpool supporters stand) can’t patch supporters which pushed get in. Bad stadium condition, failure of police control and drunken supporters are charged for this tragedy. Liverpool supporter once again got a bad credit after Heysel riot at Final Champions League match between Liverpool vs Juventus. 39 Juventus supporters were died.
Day after the Hillsborough tragedy The Sun, a tabloid newspaper in England with a provocative cover reported that Liverpool supporters was guilty and made some crimes at Hillsborough. This was made all Liverpool FC angry and shouted that tabloid told a lie. Then the city of Liverpool had begun to boycott The Sun until now. This is also made this tragedy a controversy until now.
19 years passed without justice for Liverpool supporter. Through Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) Liverpool supporter spread up a campaign to demand a justice about the tragedy. Almost two decades HFSG demand a justice by Hillsborough : Justice For 96 campaign.
Tomorrow as Liverpool official website reported at Anfiled stadium in Liverpool, HFSG will provide a memorial ceremony to remind and keep struggling to demand the justice for those who died at Hillsborough. This ceremony will be start at 2.45 pm Liverpool time include one minute silence and light candles to remember and symbolize never ending struggling to demand the truth of the tragedy.
For many April 15th just an ordinary day but for Liverpool supporter that day means a lot of thing. Loyalty, empathy, sympathy and tragedy in the history of something we always put a faith –Liverpool FC.
